Joaquín Turina, born in Seville, received a solid musical education, including studies at the Schola Cantorum with Vincent d'Indy and piano discipline in Madrid with Tragó.

Turina's Piano Trio No. 1 in D Major, Op. 35, from 1925-26, was awarded a diploma and three thousand pesetas at the Spanish National Music Competition.
