The Ivakhiv-Gadeliya Duo, comprised of Ukrainian natives violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv and pianist Angelina Gadeliya, was founded in 2006 and has performed to critical acclaim across the United States.

The album title, "UKRAINE - JOURNEY TO FREEDOM," refers to Ukraine's restoration as an independent state on August 24, 1991, after which its artists could interact directly across national borders.

Two works on the album, Viktor Kosenko's Two Pieces, Op. 4 and Borys Lyatoshynsky's Sonata, Op. 19, represent the decade 1919-1929, when a release from cultural bondage fostered artistic fervor in Ukrainian music.
