The album was recorded across several dates in 2017 and 2018 at Oktaven Audio LLC in Mt. Vernon, NY, with Tom Chiu as producer.
Nicholas DiEugenio performs on a violin made by Dom Nicolo Amati in Bologna around 1734, with a bow by Eugène Sartory from Paris, circa 1918.
This album features new works by five commissioned composers: Allen Anderson, David Kirkland Garner, Robert Honstein, Jesse Jones, and Tonia Ko.
The album's concept considers these new works as distinct 'mushrooms' that have all sprouted from the 'Beethovenian mycelium'.
Violinist Nicholas DiEugenio is praised for his 'rapturous poetry' and 'excellent' playing, performing as a chamber musician, leader, and soloist.
Mimi Solomon plays a 1987 Hamburg Steinway D piano, which was rebuilt in 2009 by Arlan Harris and Klavierhaus.
The composers were asked to take a 'loose thread' from Beethoven's violin sonatas and reweave it into a new musical work.
