The majority of the works on this album come from the extensive Düben collection, housed at the University of Uppsala, which was assembled by Gustav Düben, Kapellmeister to the Swedish court.

The Düben collection is one of the most important sources of music composed for the Lutheran rite during the 17th century, and many of its works exist only in that one copy.

The cover art, Vädersolstavlan, is an oil painting depicting sun dogs observed over Stockholm in 1535, and is the oldest known color depiction of Stockholm and of sun dogs in art.
