At 14, Vieuxtemps played Beethoven's Violin Concerto in Vienna, only the second public performance of the work since Beethoven's death.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Vieuxtemps was one of the first violinist-composers to use the full Romantic orchestral palette in his concertos, aiming for a 'symphonic' conception rather than just a display piece.

Recording & Production

This album was recorded at the Concert Hall of Slovak Radio in Bratislava, Slovakia, with sessions taking place in March 2008 and April 2002.

Instruments

On this recording, violinist Misha Keylin plays a violin made by Antonio Gagliano in 1831, and for the 'Ballade et Polonaise', he plays the 1715 'Baron Knoop' Stradivarius.
