Roberto Minczuk, the conductor on this album, is the artistic director of the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira and the Campos do Jordão International Winter Festival, and was previously an associate conductor of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.

The nine Bachianas Brasileiras were composed by Villa-Lobos between 1930 and 1945, during the height of his compositional maturity.

The Bachianas Brasileiras are suites with a strong Brazilian character, reflected not only in the music but also in the bracketed Brazilian titles for each movement, such as 'Ponteio' or 'Modinha'.
