Vyacheslav Artyomov, a Russian composer from the late 20th and early 21st centuries, is described by music writer Robert Mathew-Walker as "one of the greatest among the presently living composers."

Performer Biography

Alexander Buzlov, the cellist on this recording, won the Silver Medal at the XIII International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2007 and took second prize at the LXIII International Cello Competition in Geneva.

The Symphony 'In Spe' features two soloists, violin and cello, whose voices express the hero's inner world and connect musical episodes like the frameworks of stained glass windows.

Composition History

The Symphony 'In Spe' began as an offer for a cello concerto from Mstislav Rostropovich in 1993, but evolved over many years to include a violin and become a full symphony with soloists.
