Composer Biography

Siegfried Wagner studied advanced musical studies with Engelbert Humperdinck, a true disciple of his father, Richard Wagner, and also received instruction from his grandfather Franz Liszt.

Critical Reception

Bernard Shaw praised Siegfried Wagner's conducting, noting his 'perfect comprehension' of his father's and grandfather's music and his gentle yet firm handling of the orchestra.

Recording & Production

The album features the only surviving commercial recording of Siegfried Wagner conducting one of his own compositions, the Overture to his opera Der Bärenhäuter.

Notable Performances

Siegfried Wagner made his Bayreuth debut in 1896, conducting a complete Ring cycle, which was the first time the full cycle had been produced there in 20 years.
