Recording & Production
This album features world premiere recordings of all the works, which were recorded in November 2012 at Pyatt Hall in Vancouver, BC.
Instruments
Ariel Barnes, the cellist, plays on a Newland Johannes Franciscus Celoniatus cello built in 1730, on loan from the Canada Council for the Arts Musical Instrument Bank.
Composition History
All the works on this album were commissioned by Couloir, the cello and harp duo, as part of their effort to create new music for their instrument combination.
Compositional Technique
Baljinder Sekhon's 'Drifting Seeds' explores the idea that all musical materials are variations of the same collection of fragments, occurring at different speeds, transpositions, and timbres.
Performer Biography
Couloir is a duo featuring two Canadian musicians, Ariel Barnes (cello) and Heidi Krutzen (harp), who explore the sound world of cello and harp.
