Percussionist Simone Rubino, born in Italy in 1993, made his breakthrough in Germany by winning first prize at the ARD International Music Competition in 2014.
Composition History
Twelve composers from different countries and cultures were commissioned to write a five-minute work for voice and ensemble, depicting their personal associations with Christmas.
Performer Biography
Baritone Dietrich Henschel, a regular guest at major opera houses, has a repertoire ranging from Monteverdi to the avant-garde and received a Grammy for his performance in Busoni's Doktor Faust.
Interpretation
Simone Rubino reinterpreted traditional Christmas carols using a wide variety of percussion instruments, aiming for arrangements that are both sweet and spicy, or kooky and danceable.
Recording & Production
The ensemble unitedberlin, with Vladimir Jurowski as Artistic Advisor, has been the Ensemble in Residence at the Konzerthaus Berlin since the 2015/16 season.
