The Armenian Suite began as a small piano piece based on an Armenian lullaby, which Yardumian orchestrated and expanded to seven movements, with the final movement added at the request of conductor Eugene Ormándy.

Yardumian's Symphony No. 2, 'Psalms', originally written in 1947, was later revised in 1964 with the addition of a substantial second movement.

Lan Shui, the conductor of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, has received several international awards and was proclaimed by Oscar-winning composer Tan Dun as "the best Asian orchestra I have heard."

All the works on this album were premiered by Eugene Ormándy, a famous conductor who supported Yardumian's work, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Yardumian developed his own 'method of composing with twelve tones' that differed from Schoenberg's by generally being tonally based.
