Bach was also a violinist, active in the Weimar court orchestra, and his son Carl Philipp Emanuel stated that he played the violin "purely and penetratingly" and understood all string instruments perfectly.
Performer Biography
Nadja Zwiener, the violinist, has been concertmaster of The English Concert since 2007 and has collaborated with conductors like Simon Rattle and John Eliot Gardiner.

Johannes Lang, the organist, is the current organist of the Thomaskirche in Leipzig and has won multiple organ competitions, including the Bach Competition in Leipzig in 2012.

This album was recorded at the Kreuzkirche in Störmthal, Germany, on an organ built by Zacharias Hildebrandt in 1723.
Instruments
The Hildebrandt organ used for this recording was tuned to the Leipzig Chorton with unequal temperament, specifically the Silbermann 1/6 comma temperament.
