Composer Biography

Vinzenz Jelich (Vinko Jelić), a native of Rijeka, served as a choirboy in Archduke Ferdinand's chapel in Graz and later as an instrumentalist in Alsace.

Composition History

Francesco Usper and Gabriele Usper, both from Poreč, changed their surname from Sponga to Usper in honor of their Venetian patron, Cesare Usper.

Compositional Technique

Several pieces on this recording, including Gabriello Puliti's "En dilectus meus" and Ioannes Lukacich's "Quam pulchra es" and "Sicut cedrus," set texts from the Song of Songs, which have more or less erotic content.
