This album is a co-production of IRCAM-Centre Pompidou, Ensemble intercontemporain, and KAIROS, with co-edition by Fundación Caja Madrid and KAIROS.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Posadas integrates aesthetics into his compositions by translating architectural spaces into music, applying topology and perspective-related painting techniques, and exploring instruments' acoustic features at a 'microscopic' level.
Performer Biography
The Ensemble intercontemporain, founded by Pierre Boulez in 1976, consists of 31 soloists dedicated to 20th and 21st-century music, focusing on performance, creation, and education.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Posadas's music is often called 'Francophile' in Spain due to his style of combining sonic materials, but in Francophone countries, he is seen as a genuinely Spanish composer because of the power and aplomb in his sound masses.
Performer Biography
François-Xavier Roth, the conductor for tracks 1-3, is the designated Principal Conductor of the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg and Associate Guest Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
Compositional Technique
Posadas's style is characterized by a 'plutonic' sound, like unchecked magma that crystallizes explosively into myriad colors or sublimates into brittle sparks.
Composer Biography
Alberto Posadas, born in 1967 in Valladolid, Spain, considers Francisco Guerrero his most important mentor, with whom he studied composition starting in 1988.
