Albinoni: Sonate da chiesa
Did you know?
1/6Interpretation
The performers on this album used a facsimile of the original 1704 edition of Albinoni's Sonate da chiesa, Op. 4, which indicates the sonatas were for violin and basso continuo.
Performer Biography
Jaime González, the oboist on this recording, is a member of ensemble recherche, one of Europe's foremost New Music chamber music groups, and also performs Early Baroque repertoire.
Interpretation
It was common practice in Albinoni's time to adapt works for different melody instruments, as long as the musical affects were not lost.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Tomaso Albinoni, the composer of the Sonate da chiesa, Op. 4, is often unfairly reduced to the 'Adagio in G minor,' which was not even composed by him.
Recording & Production
This album was recorded at the BDB-Musikakademie in Staufen, Germany, from March 1-5, 2010.
Interpretation
The performers believe that grasping the spirit of the music is more important than using period instruments, though they do use a mix of historical and modern instruments.
