Performer Biography

Marin Alsop, the conductor, is the Chief Conductor of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Chief Conductor and Curator of Chicago's Ravinia Festival, where she conducts the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's summer residencies.

Composition History

The idea for "The Moons Symphony" by Amanda Lee Falkenberg, the composer, was conceived in October 2017 after she researched crescent moons and discovered an article titled "Ten of the weirdest moons of our Solar System."

Performer Biography

Nicole Stott, a NASA ISS astronaut, is featured on the album reading a poem titled "Reflections on Symphonic Space Flight," and she also painted a watercolor in space, which is now displayed at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Amanda Lee Falkenberg, the composer, aimed to break the moons free from the "eternal vault of silence" and give them music and emotion, drawing on her background as a film composer.

Performer Biography

The London Symphony Orchestra, established in 1904, is one of the first orchestras shaped by its musicians and has made more recordings than any other orchestra, with 2,500 to its name.

Composition History

The creative process for the first six movements of "The Moons Symphony" was driven by scientific data from consultations with planetary scientists, while the seventh movement was inspired by emotional data from astronauts, including NASA's ISS astronaut Nicole Stott.
