Historical Context
The Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (SCB), where Crawford Young teaches, was founded in 1933 by Paul Sacher and colleagues, and is a unique University of Early Music.

The album was recorded in May 2001 at the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, Germany, and produced by Andreas Neubronner.
Performer Biography
Crawford Young, the other lutenist, is a founding member and director of the award-winning Ferrara Ensemble and has taught lute at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis since 1982.
Interpretation
The performers arranged much of the repertoire themselves, following the practice of early lutenists, as there is little music from this period specifically for lute duo.
Instruments
The lutes used on this recording include Renaissance lutes in A and E, made by Richard C. Earle in Basel and Joel van Lennep in Rindge, USA.
Recording & Production
This re-edition of the album is dedicated to the memory of Karl-Ernst Schröder, one of the lutenists on this recording, who passed away in 2003.
