Composer John Mackey never learned to play a musical instrument, instead learning music by playing with composition software and transcribing classical scores.

John Mackey initially aimed to conquer the symphony orchestra world, but found success after re-orchestrating his symphonic work, Redline Tango, for wind ensemble in 2005.
