All three pieces on this album were commissioned by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to celebrate the opening of the Caroline H. Hume Concert Hall at its new Civic Center home.

Steven Mackey, the third composer, initially played electric guitar in rock bands before discovering concert music and composing for various ensembles.

Aaron Jay Kernis, one of the composers featured, is a recipient of the Grawemeyer Award and the Pulitzer Prize, and co-runs the Minnesota Orchestra's Composer Institute.
Composer Biography
Jorge Liderman, another composer on this album, was born in Buenos Aires and joined the composition faculty at UC Berkeley in 1989.
