1/6Composer's Artistic Vision
For harpsichordist Céline Frisch, Bach's music is an absolute benchmark and an inexhaustible source, always on her music stand.
Compositional Technique
The Goldberg Variations, Bach's musical compendium for keyboard, systematically assembles every genre of keyboard music, combining dance movements, contrapuntal movements, bravura pieces, and a quodlibet.
Compositional Technique
The Goldberg Variations are built on a simple, repeating structure of two sections, each sixteen bars long, that unfold the same bass line for the theme and its thirty variations.
Performer Biography
Céline Frisch, the harpsichordist on this album, began her recording career at age twenty-six with the Goldberg Variations.
Recording & Production
The idea for including the canons and the songs that inspired the Quodlibet came from Jean-Paul Combet, then director of the Alpha label.
Recording & Production
This album includes fourteen canons on the first eight notes of the Aria's bass from the Goldberg Variations, performed by the strings of Café Zimmermann.
