Many of the posthumous songs on this album, including nineteen world premiere recordings, were written before Samuel Barber's first published opus.
Composer Biography
Samuel Barber was a natural linguist, setting songs in French even at a young age, as evidenced by 'La nuit' and 'Au clair de la lune'.
Instruments
The Navarra String Quartet, featured on this album, plays on fine instruments including a Grancino cello made in Milan in 1698, on loan from the Cruft-Grancino Trust.
