Claude Kesmaecker, the conductor, won first prize in the International Conductors Competition at Kerkrade in the Netherlands in 1985, which led him to focus his career on wind bands.

The title of Marc Steckar's Deux Marches d'écart is a pun on his name and refers to his time playing in a big band, two rows away from the soloist.
