Antoni Wit, the conductor on this album, studied conducting with Henryk Czyz and composition with Krzysztof Penderecki at the Academy of Music in Kraków, and also with Nadia Boulanger in Paris.

Idil Biret has made over eighty recordings since the 1960s, including the complete piano works of Brahms, Chopin, and Rachmaninov.

Beethoven considered his Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat major to be one of his "first concertos, and therefore not one of the best of my compositions."

Idil Biret was a pupil of Alfred Cortot and a lifelong disciple of Wilhelm Kempff, both renowned pianists.

Idil Biret, the pianist on this album, began playing piano at age three and studied at the Paris Conservatoire, graduating at fifteen with three first prizes.

This album is part of the Idil Biret Archive (IBA), a project to bring together her extensive recordings, including those no longer commercially available.
Composition History
Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major was written later than the B flat major concerto, despite its numbering.
