The cor anglais and oboes on this recording are copies of instruments made by Johann Friedrich Floth, a Dresden instrument maker who worked between 1803 and 1807.

Beethoven's Trio in C major, Op. 87, was originally published in 1806 without an opus number and was also arranged for two violins and viola, sometimes listed as Op. 29.

Lani Spahr, who plays cor anglais on this recording, has toured extensively across North America, Europe, and the Far East on both period and modern oboes.
Composer Biography
Anton Wranitzky, a composer and violinist featured on this album, studied with Mozart, Albrechtsberger, and Haydn, and became Kapellmeister for Prince Lobkowitz and later director of the Imperial Court Orchestra.

Beethoven's oboe trios were likely inspired by a trio by Johann Wenth, an oboist, performed in Vienna in December 1793.
Historical Context
When Beethoven arrived in Vienna in 1792, the city was a 'police state' where the aristocracy, facing economic pressures, cut back on lavish arts patronage, leading to fewer private orchestras.
Performer Biography
Marc Schachman, one of the oboists on this album, is a founding member of several prominent American period instrument chamber groups, including the Aulos Ensemble and the Amadeus Winds.
