Composer Biography

Michel Pignolet de Montéclair, the composer, was born in Andelot, France, in 1667 and joined the choir school of Langres Cathedral at age nine.

Composer Biography

Montéclair was a noted basse violon player in the Paris Opéra orchestra and taught two of François Couperin's daughters.

Performer Biography

Les Ordinaires, the ensemble on this recording, performs on copies of 17th- to 18th-century instruments, including the traverso, viola da gamba, and theorbo, known as the Royal Trio.
