Guitar Trek, an Australian quartet, was formed in 1987 to launch a guitar family project, which has since become a major new direction in the guitar's development.
Compositional Technique
Nigel Westlake's Six Fish incorporates a 12-string guitar and a Dobro resonator, instruments more commonly associated with blues and folk music, to expand the sound world.

Guitar Trek plays a unique 'guitar family' of instruments, including treble, standard, baritone, and bass guitars, designed by the late Australian luthier Graham Caldersmith OAM.
Composition History
Phillip Houghton's Nocturne was originally a piano piece from 1976, and he created the version for guitar quartet in 2002 for Guitar Trek.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Phillip Houghton's News from Nowhere was inspired by William Morris's socio-political fantasy book of the same name and a trek through Australia's Far North-East rainforests.
Album & Artwork
The album title, Bluetongue, refers to an Australian 'cold-blooded' animal, a blue-tongue lizard, which also inspired one of the movements in Richard Charlton's work.
Recording & Production
This album features several world premiere recordings, including Richard Charlton's Five Tails in Cold Blood and Elena Kats-Chernin's Bleached Memories.
