The String Quintet in F minor by Brahms was originally composed in August 1862 in Hamm near Hamburg, before his first visit to Vienna.

The Piano Trio in A major, whose authenticity is debated, survived as a fair copy and was first publicly performed in 1925 as the work of 'an as yet unknown composer'.
