Composition History
The Four Piano Pieces, Op. 119, are among Brahms's last compositions, written in 1893, and reflect a period of declining health and a turn away from superficial virtuosity.
Composer Biography
Brahms was introduced to the famous violinist Joseph Joachim, who then recommended him to Robert Schumann, a composer and his future mentor.
Composition History
Brahms dedicated his Sonata No. 2 in F sharp minor, Op. 2, composed when he was 19, to Clara Schumann, the wife of his mentor Robert Schumann.
Performer Biography
Daria Kameneva, the pianist on this album, won first prize at the European Piano Competition in France in 2011, which led to the production of this CD.

Robert Schumann, a composer and Brahms's mentor, promoted the young Brahms in his famous article 'Neue Bahnen' ('New Paths') in the 'Neue Zeitschrift für Musik' ('New Journal of Music').
