The Piano Quintet was dedicated to Princess Anna of Hesse, who, in return, gifted Brahms with the manuscript of Mozart's G minor Symphony.

The Modigliani Quartet performs on four magnificent Italian instruments, including violins by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini (1780) and Alessandro Gagliano (1734), a viola by Mariani (1660), and a cello by Matteo Goffriller (1706).

This album was recorded at the Théâtre-Auditorium (TAP) in Poitiers, France, a venue recognized for having one of the finest acoustics in Europe.
Composition History
The second of the Two Songs, Op. 91, was composed in September 1864 as a birth gift for Johannes Joachim, Brahms's godson and the son of his friends Joseph Joachim and Amalie Weiss.
