Nicholas Daniel, the oboist, won the BBC Young Musician competition in 1980 and has premiered hundreds of oboe works, receiving the Queen's Medal for Music in 2020.

Leon Goossens, the oboist who inspired most of the works on this album, came from a formidable musical family, including his conductor father and brother, and two harpist sisters.
