Composer Biography

Dietrich Buxtehude, the composer, was already a renowned organist when he arrived at St. Mary's Church in Lübeck in 1668, having previously served in Helsingborg and Helsingør.

Performer Biography

Philippe Pierlot, the viola da gamba player and conductor, founded the Flora record label to help young artists self-produce their personal projects.

Recording & Production

This album was recorded in October 2022 at the Sainte-Trinité Abbey of La Lucerne d'Outremer, a medieval Premonstratensian architectural site.

Buxtehude expanded the Abendmusiken, which were originally organ concerts introduced by his predecessor Franz Tunder, into dramatic vocal and instrumental works.
