Composition History
Brambach's Piano Quartet in E flat major, Op. 13, is dedicated to Clara Schumann, who performed her late husband's piano concerto in Bonn under Brambach's baton.

Brambach's career began to take off at the same time as Johannes Brahms, who was the same age, was being "discovered" by the Schumanns.

Caspar Joseph Brambach, born in 1833, was the son of a music teacher and piano tuner in Oberdollendorf in the Rhineland.
Performer Biography
Mikhail Nemtsov, the principal cellist of the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra, has held a professorship at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz since 2025.

This album is a co-production between cpo and Deutschlandfunk, recorded in the Deutschlandfunk Chamber Music Hall in Cologne.
Composer Biography
Brambach expanded his activities to include piano soloist, organist, and violist, and taught at the Cologne Conservatory from 1859.
Instruments
Ingo de Haas, one of the violinists on this recording, plays a violin made by Lorenzo Storioni in Cremona in 1770.
