Two short operas by Marc-Antoine Charpentier are performed by the Boston Early Music Festival Chamber and Vocal Ensembles. Charpentier's elegant music dates from the time of Louis XIV, and one of the operas included here – Les plaisirs de Versailles – depicts the pleasures of his royal palace. The other, Les arts florissants, shows the arts flourishing under Louis's rule. Paul O'Dette and Stephen Stubbs direct the ensembles.
