The Hyperion Trio initiated the Klanginsel Helgoland Chamber Music Festival in May 2016, inviting fellow musicians to perform together annually.

Norwegian musicologist Kari Michelsen noted that Christian Sinding was radical in his use of cyclic thematic form, and his style possessed an aggressive freshness and virility.

Historical Context

Christian Sinding's legacy was severely tarnished when, in 1941, shortly before his death and while suffering from dementia, he joined the Norwegian Nazi Party, the Nasjonal Samling.

The Hyperion Trio, founded in 1999, won the International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition in Pörtschach just two years after its formation.

Critical Reception

Although Christian Sinding was highly regarded during his lifetime, with his music published by Breitkopf & Härtel, he is now largely forgotten and, in some cases, underrated.

Christian Sinding, a Norwegian composer, was one of the few from his country in the 19th and early 20th centuries, besides Edvard Grieg, Ole Bull, and Johan Svendsen, to gain international attention.

Unlike Edvard Grieg, Christian Sinding did not engage with Norwegian folk music, instead gravitating toward the Central European style after his studies.
