Composition History

David Gillingham's No Shadow of Turning was commissioned by a consortium of organizations at the Ohio State University in memory of Lois Brock, the beloved secretary of the Ohio State University Bands.

Interpretation

The arrangement of Dvořák's Serenade, Op. 22 for wind band was inspired by his Serenade in D minor, Op. 44 for chamber winds, cello, and bass.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Michael Colgrass's Winds of Nagual was inspired by the writings of Carlos Castaneda and his experiences with a Yaqui Indian sorcerer named Don Juan Matisse.
