Schuyt's first madrigal book from 1600, dedicated to the town council of Leyden, features a preface by the author and includes pieces celebrating the town itself.

Composition History

Schuyt's later madrigal book, "Hymeneo overo madrigali nuptiali et altri amorosi," printed in 1611, is dedicated to Jacob van Duvenvoorde, a lieutenant-admiral and amateur musician who sang and played the lute.
