Domenico Scarlatti served as maestro di capella at the Royal Chapel in Lisbon and taught harpsichord to the Portuguese princess Maria Barbara, who later became Queen of Spain.

Domenico Scarlatti, the composer, was born in Naples in 1685, the same year as Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel.
Performer Biography
Carlo Grante, the pianist on this album, gave the first live performance of all 53 of Leopold Godowsky's Studies on the Études of Chopin.
Compositional Technique
The Scarlatti sonatas are almost always arranged in groups of thirty, a practice also seen in works by Portuguese composer Carlos Seixas and Spanish composers Antonio Soler and Mateo Albéniz.
Composition History
Scarlatti dedicated his thirty printed Essercizi per Gravicembalo (Exercises for the Harpsichord) to King João V of Portugal, stating he published them out of obedience, not self-interest or ambition.
