Louis François Dauprat, born in Paris in 1781, was a distinguished horn professor at the Paris Conservatoire, which was already world-renowned in his time.

Dauprat was the star pupil in the natural horn class at the Paris Conservatoire and in 1798 won the first 'Premier Prix' ever awarded there.

Dauprat's compositions were always intended for his students and served exclusively didactic purposes.
Recording & Production
This 1982 recording was made in the Martin-Luther-Kirche in Detmold, a neo-Gothic church with ideal acoustics for wind ensembles, but required night sessions due to its central location.
Instruments
The 'Inventionshorn' awarded to Dauprat for his 'Premier Prix' is a masterpiece from the workshop of Lucien Joseph Raoux, the leading horn maker in Paris at the time, and is now a showpiece at the Conservatoire Museum.
