Machaut added a previously unknown affective polyphonic trope to the plainchant of the ordinary for the Lady Mass, radically transforming traditional singing.

The recording was engineered by Alexandre Fostier and produced by Graindelavoix, the performing ensemble.
Composition History
After Machaut's death, friends and colleagues collected money to ensure performances of his polyphonic Lady Mass by skilled singers at Reims Cathedral.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Machaut meticulously self-edited his manuscripts to make his works available for future generations, preserving the voices of the past.
