Debussy's Danse sacrée et danse profane was commissioned in 1904 by the French instrument manufacturer Pleyel to showcase their new 'chromatic harp' design.

Performer Biography
Yonca Atar, the harpist on this album, won first prize in the Fifth Lubomir Pipkov National Music School International Young Virtuosi Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2009.
Instruments
The 'chromatic harp' for which Debussy's Danses were written had a string for each semitone, unlike the conventional pedal harp.

This recording was made from a live, audience-less performance in September 2020 at San Pacifico Church on Büyükada, Istanbul, during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

James Ross, the conductor, was a finalist in the 1998 BBC Philharmonic Conducting Competition and has since conducted in nineteen countries.

The concert was live-streamed and televised, featuring twenty-six musicians from Turkey, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
