Claude Debussy, who spent nearly his entire life in Paris, never formally taught at the Paris Conservatory or privately, yet he profoundly influenced subsequent composers and musicians.
Interpretation
The Duo Mattick Huth specializes in thematic concert programs that combine music and text, with Christian Mattick as flutist and narrator, and Mathias Huth on piano.
Recording & Production
This album was recorded at Klosterbibliothek Polling, Germany, between March 26-29, 2017, with Claudia Neumann as the recording producer and Tonmeister.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Debussy's musical language avoids the spectacular, instead using new forms, novel soundscapes, and non-European scales and rhythms, all clothed in silky sonorities.
Compositional Technique
Despite Debussy's extensive orchestral works, his complete catalogue includes only seven chamber ensemble pieces, most from his late creative period.
