Victoria's music is a blend of Spanish tradition and passion, influenced by his contemporaries St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross, and Roman influence from the period of Catholic reform.

Victoria, the composer, frequently used a technique called 'parody', where he reworked passages from his earlier compositions into new ones, such as using parts of his 8-voice Salve Regina in his Mass of the same name.
