The Marien organ, the main organ in Freiburg Minster, was built in 1965 by Rieger Orgelbau and features a contemporary case with nine towers designed by Jakob Schmidt.

Matthias Maierhofer is a professor of organ at the Musikhochschule Freiburg and also serves as cathedral organist at the Münster Unserer Lieben Frau in Freiburg.

Johann Sebastian Bach's involvement with the organ was central to his life, thought, and work, even though he was only employed as an organist for about 15 years.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Bach understood his music in two dimensions: human and religious, as expressed in the dedication verse of the 'Orgelbüchlein': 'To the Highest, God alone, in honor; the neighbor to learn from it.'
Performer Biography
Matthias Maierhofer, the organist on this album, has won several prestigious international organ competitions, including the Pachelbel Competition in Nuremberg in 2007.
