Composition History
The premiere of Dutilleux's Cello Concerto in 1970 at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence was immediately encored in its entirety due to the "devilish mistral" wind playing tricks on the performers.

Performer Biography
Victor Julien-Laferrière, the cellist on this album, won the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2017 and was awarded the Victoire de la Musique in France as Instrumental Soloist of the Year in 2018.
Composition History
Henri Dutilleux's Cello Concerto, "Tout un monde lointain…", was commissioned by cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, who encouraged Dutilleux to take his time with the composition.
