Christoph Eschenbach, the conductor on this album, is currently Music Director Designate of the National Symphony Orchestra and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Dvořák believed that American music could develop a 'great and noble school' based on African-American melodies, stating they contained "all that is needed for a great and noble school of music."
Composition History
Dvořák's 'Carnival Overture' was part of a triptych called 'Nature, Life, and Love' and served as a musical farewell before he left for New York and a greeting for his first American program.

This album was recorded live in Walt Disney Concert Hall between October 29 and November 1, 2009.
