Yuri Ahronovitch, the conductor on this album, was born in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in 1933 to a family of musicians and academics.

Despite his talent, Yuri Ahronovitch was forbidden from traveling abroad by Soviet authorities due to his family's persecution, with only one exception for a tour in East Germany in 1965.
