1/6Interpretation
Gáman's unconventional instrumentation of violin, recorder, and accordion allows them to take liberties with form and harmony in their arrangements of folk music.
Performer Biography
Gáman is a trio formed in 2007 by three celebrated young Danish musicians: Bolette Roed (recorders), Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen (violin), and Andreas Borregaard (classical accordion).
Recording & Production
This album was recorded in the DXD audio format (Digital eXtreme Definition) at 352.8 kHz / 32bit, using DPA and AKG microphones.
Composition History
The project began in 2007 when the three musicians had the idea of mixing brand new and very old folk music and new music from six Nordic countries.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The contemporary works on this album were commissioned with the understanding that they would be played alongside old folk music, but composers were not asked to relate to the folk music in their new works.
Album & Artwork
The album title "Gáman" is a self-made variation on the Old Norse word "gaman," meaning merriment, fun, and games.
