Jan Ekier, a composer and pianist, dedicated his life and creative energy to Fryderyk Chopin, eventually giving up his compositional career to focus on editorial, pedagogical, and performance activities related to Chopin's works.

Composer's Artistic Vision
Both Jan Ekier and Karol Szymanowski, the composers featured on this album, shared a fascination with Fryderyk Chopin's music and were inspired by Polish folk music, especially Highlander folklore.
Performer Biography
Wojciech Pyrć, the pianist on this album, began his piano education at age 6 and completed his studies with honors at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

Wojciech Pyrć is a laureate of several competitions, including a 2nd prize at the International Piano Competition 'María Herrero' in Granada (2015) and a 5th prize at the National Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2011).
Composition History
Jan Ekier's compositional activity was largely pre-war, consisting mostly of piano miniatures, and he eventually abandoned composition in the early 1950s, believing every reconstructed note in Chopin's works was worth all his own composing.
Recording & Production
The recording sessions took place at the European Center Matecznik 'Mazowsze' in Otrębusy, Poland, across four days in October and December 2017.
