Ronald Stevenson, born in 1928 to working-class parents, trained at the Royal Manchester College of Music and the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome.
Composition History
Stevenson's "Le festin d'Alkan" was completed in 1997 after nine years of work and was commissioned by Peter Hick for the centenary of Alkan's death in 1988.
Recording & Production
This album was recorded at the Haden-Freeman Concert Hall, Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, using a Steinway Model D piano.
Performer Biography
Murray McLachlan, the pianist on this album, made his professional debut in 1986 and has released over forty commercial recordings, including complete sonata cycles by Beethoven, Myaskovsky, and Prokofiev.
