The only known image of Molter is a full profile pen and ink drawing by artist Pier Leone Ghezzi, for which Molter posed in Rome during his second Italian journey.

Molter made two trips to Italy, the first from 1719-1721 and the second from 1737-1738, to learn about new Italian musical styles.

Molter's instrumental music is extensive, with nearly 500 surviving works, including 170 symphonies, 120 chamber works, and about 70 concertos for one or two soloists.
